I suppose others may have different opinions. The other thing i get from the sd-170 amp is “0” coloration except that the sound is very “tube” warm and musical. You get 3 knobs on th sd-170 to tweak the different rooms you play without messing w the gp-10’s customized sounds. One of the things I love about my new setup is the simplicity. Guitar players who cant hear themselves on stage can use monitors to add to the spectrum without blowing your mates’ ears and/or the first row, imho.

There was one review that said the amp overheated, but that’s has not been my experience so far. The sound is stable at mediumĪnd high volumes. How loud is the SD 170? Plenty loud to play in a loud band with w 2 guitar players. I got my brown sound, my funky stratty sound, and jazzy warm sounds. But I digress, the result is marvelous so far. I also added a boss fs-7 pedals to add more control and choices***fs-7 great pedal idea that matches the gp-10 with power-supply and lights, but poorly executed to match the gp-10 editor-when you want “latch” you have to set the gp-10 to “momentary” for controls 3&4 and ti the enjoy one press-booh to Boss on that one).

My setup: fly parker (600s series)=> gk3=>GP-10=>SD Powerstage 170=>Atomic Reactor cabinet (amp broke so I kept the cab which is loaded with a 12” turbosound speaker). Needless to say, I feel we compliment each other’s sounds. The other guitar player likes it more dry. So I've now got 5 cords coming out from my board (2 instrument cables, 2 power cables, 1 speaker cable). 1 also like to “grease it up” by adding effects to my leads. Currently I have to run the D cable from the Powerstage in addition to a One Spot to power my pedals. (I like the quietness of the hex pickups). I onthe other hand have more of a crossover sound w the use of a strat or parker fly, both w gk-3 built in units. His “brown” sound is awesome and very Marshally. Recently, I joined a tribute like band (70’s and 80’s rock) that already has aguitar player. This has been a quest of mine to make my gear “lighter” while not sacrificing sound quality. Interested in opinions based on experience with this combination. PowerStage 170 is a revolutionary pedal-board power amp designed for guitarists using pedals, modelers and effects processors to create their tone.I haven’t seen any reviews here re: SD power stage170 by Seymour Duncan and the gp-10.Like our award-winning pedals, the PowerStage 170 is designed and assembled at our Santa Barbara, California, factory by the same team responsible for our legendary pickups. Forget about cartage, forget about complicated setups, forget about backline issues and think about the PowerStage 170. Imagine the freedom of showing up at a gig with a streamlined, lightweight rig that you can get up and running in under five minutes, with the confidence that comes from knowing that you will have your sound, no matter what. And when you bypass your overdrive and distortion boxes, it will function as your clean channel, with the sweet, warm sound that we associate with great amps. You can even adjust the big Master Volume knob with your foot, boosting solos and controlling dynamics in real time. The 170’s intuitive 3-band analog EQ allows for quickly fine-tuning your sound for any cabinet and any venue-no need to wrestle with the cumbersome and ineffective EQs on digital gear or modify your stompbox settings. Simply bring your guitar and your pedalboard and get your tone through whatever cab is provided. The PowerStage 170 will give you reliable, musical power on every gig, eliminating the uncertainty that backline amps can bring.
